16/10/24 Statement – Club put up for sale

Firstly, I think I speak for just about every supporter when I say that we all welcome the news that the football club is up for sale. However, the rest of the Chairman’s statement seems to once again be at best, misleading.

He states that the ‘current situation’ is the reason he has decided to sell the club, going on to reference the on going ‘boycott’s and protests’. At present only one game has been boycotted, likely costing the club less than £1,500 when you factor in declining attendances and reduced gate price on the day.

The reasons behind the boycott were rather made very clear and going back to June, the Chairman has had chance after chance to engage and communicate with supporters to actually outline his 5 year plan, and explain how he plans to finance the club, having previously stated that he wanted to get Blyth Spartans into the Championship in an interview with ITV.

As supporters, we haven’t demanded he spend money. We haven’t demanded that he take us into the Football League. We haven’t demanded millions be spent on the facilities and we haven’t demanded stupid money be spent on players. All we’ve asked from the start from ownership, is transparency and clear plan in relation to how he’s plans to progress the football club.

Instead, he chooses to put the club up for sale and ignore the concerns that supporters entrusted us to present to him, as well as the questions and concerns that supporters have put to him independently.

While the Chairman may state that he is advanced stages of a deal to sell the club, it’s important to note that a sale of the club has not yet been signed and sealed. On top of that, several questions in relation to the clubs future and financial situation are looming and needed to be addressed.

In the meantime, tonight’s Open Meeting will still be taking place. We invite all supporters to come along and join in the discussion about the future of the football club, and how we’ll all play a role helping shape it.

Cheers,

Dan Rolls
