Saturday’s game with Peterborough Sports can only really be looked at as a golden opportunity to climb the league table and start gaining some real momentum as we head into what will be another busy Christmas period.
The visitors may have lost their last 2 league games while drawing blanks but they’ve bagged 5 wins in their last 9 outings, thrashing Leiston 4-1 in the FA Trophy last Saturday to make up for the lack of goals lately.
Summer signing Ben Fowkes has been Sports main threat this season, netting 4 goals in the National League North. Capable of playing on the left flank or up as a main striker, Fowkes won’t exactly be the biggest threat our defence has seen this season though he is still coming back from an injury.
Ashton Fox, Connor Johnson and Hayden Cann are all capable centre back’s and will often all start in the same line up, which will probably indicate they’ll set up in a back 5. Right wing back Matt Tootle is experienced and well thought off around the league, though he’s nothing Michael Liddle won’t be able handle. Kane Felix is till yet find some real from after his move from Darlington this summer, nor has Jordan Nicholason who’s only just come back from a broken leg which kept him out for a year.
As for Spartans, Will McGowan should be ready to slot straight back into the team after coming off with what looked like a nasty knock-on Tuesday night. Expect Rhys Evans may be ready to return, and Elliot Forbes may make the bench, but that’s possibly a bit optimistic No word on Jordan Hickey (knee) or JJ Hooper (achillies).
Forward Mikael Ndjoli’s initial 28-day loan is now up, though we may have looked to extend it and come 3pm Saturday he might be still in the matchday squad. As for a predicted starting XI, it’s probably safe to guess we’ll go with the same XI that started on Tuesday night. Though that will of course depend on lads returning from injury.
Fan Info
The regular burger van will be in the ground as per and Shy’s pies will be back in the clubhouse with Pieface in his natural habitat. I should say though he may be looking a bit lost and lonely, as I’m missing this one, Cole is away and Jack won’t be arriving until late on so if someone could go down to keep him company and make sure he’s stays (reasonably) sober.
Clubhouse will be open from midday as per normal, showing the AFC Fylde v Dorking Wanderers before the game and the Premier League clash between Brentford and Arsenal. As it’s payday weekend (for some of us) it’d be rude not to have a few.
As for the club shop, that will be open again as normal between 1:30pm and 2:50pm, and then again after the match and while they have a few home shirts in stock, they are light on away kits and keeper tops. They do though still have plenty of the new Erreà training wear in stock though.
Match tickets can be purchased here.
Obviously with it being a Saturday the game won’t be streamed.
Betting Preview
Spartans are favourites on oddschecker this time and they’ve given us some good odds on a 3-0/3-1 win which personally is what i’ll be ganning for. Not much logic to that i’m afraid, just a gut feeling and blind faith.
